Seyaj Organization for Childhood Protection (Seyaj) has managed to delay the wedding of two Yemeni children for five years. Fathers of Neamah Abdullah al-Shoaitar, 13 years old girlو and Hafez Mansour Homaid al-Hasani, 10 years old boy,  pledged in writing to not marry off their children until they become mature, eligible and able to take proper decisions on their life and choose their partners independently. The Monitoring and Advocacy Center of Seyaj mandated the officer of legal advocacy, Akram Noaman, and the officer of complaining and notification section Nora al-Jumaee to follow up the case and who, in turn, managed to make the two fathers pledge to not marry off their two child girls. For their part, the two children affirmed that they had no desire to get marry and only  their fathers signed their marriage contracts. Father of Hafez Mansour said that he only signed the contract to save Neamah from being exploited by their parents, pointing out that father of Neamah had marry off her sisters, Saadah and Amenah in early ages and that they are now divorced and suffering from health, social, psychological and economic problems. The success of foiling this wedding is the second of its kind in less than two weeks. Seyaj managed two weeks ago to halt a wedding of a child girl, Aisha Ebraheem Moqarbish, in Al-Lohia district located in al-Hodeidah. Seyaj holds Yemen’s presidency, Parliament and Cabinet responsible for the lack of legislations needed to address such sensitive issues. Seyaj calls for enacting laws which criminalize marriage of child girls, under 16 years and authorize judges to estimate whether those girls who are between 17-18 are eligible to marriage. Seyaj also urges to address other causes which lead to the marriage of children, stressing that laws are not sufficient to solve problems lonely. #Seyaj #foils #wedding  #children #Yemen Sana’a- November 27, 2013
