Displaced and Trapped, Mostly Children and Women:

June 16, 2018

The Siyaj Organization for Child Protection is issuing an urgent humanitarian appeal to the Yemeni government and emergency relief organizations to take immediate action to rescue hundreds of families on the Tihama coast, south of Hodeidah.

Siyaj calls on both the Arab Coalition and the Houthi group to secure a safe passage for civilians still trapped in villages in the Ad Durayhimi district and to deliver life-saving aid to all civilians affected by the war.

Preliminary information indicates that approximately 50 families, mostly children and women, displaced from the villages of Al Taif, Ghulayfiqah, and Manzar to the desert west of Bayt al Faqih, are suffering dire humanitarian conditions. Meanwhile, hundreds of other families are being hosted by impoverished families who are themselves struggling with poverty and unable to provide food and water for their members.

Hundreds of families are trapped in villages, unable to flee or move from areas of conflict and areas contaminated with anti-personnel mines. Thousands of these mines have been planted indiscriminately across vast areas of farmland, homes, and roads.

Sources from the Siyaj Organization in the region say that the displaced and trapped families have not received any aid since their displacement during the past month of Ramadan. They are in dire need of food, drinking water, tents, and medicine.

The sources confirm that mines and booby traps have been planted in the homes and farms of the displaced, and that simply returning to these homes poses a deadly threat to them.

The Siyaj Organization for the Protection of Childhood warns of the critical humanitarian situation in the districts of Al-Durayhimi, Manzar, and parts of Bayt al-Faqih, Al-Husayniyah, Al-Tuhayta, and other districts on the Tihama coast.

Siyaj calls on local authorities and relief organizations to take immediate action to rescue civilians in the aforementioned Tihama villages.

Issued by: Siyaj Organization for the Protection of Childhood.
