Judicial authorities have imposed harsh penalties on a man convicted of kidnapping, raping, and murdering a 12-year-old girl in Hajjah Governorate, northwestern Yemen.

On August 26, 2018, the court carried out the death sentence against the individual convicted of these crimes and ordered him to pay one million Yemeni riyals (approximately US$200) in compensation to the victim’s family.

Siyaj for Childhood advocated for the victim, providing legal assistance to her family and following up with security and judicial authorities to ensure the perpetrator’s accountability and punishment.

Siyaj for Childhood urges security and judicial authorities in all Yemeni governorates to be firm and swift in carrying out the sentence publicly and promptly, ensuring the imposition of the strictest legal penalties on perpetrators of rape, murder, or kidnapping of children.
