The “Siyaj Organization” thanks the Taiz Governorate Police for its efforts in protecting children and reducing crimes against their rights. Siyaj seeks to strengthen cooperation with security and judicial authorities to curb the alarming increase in sexual violence amidst the war and displacement in Yemen. The security media outlet “Siyaj” commended the decision to withhold the names of the victim and the accused, along with all identifying information, as an indication of the legal maturity of the journalists working at the center and its positive impact on protecting the dignity of all parties from defamation and stigma. A statement issued by the Taiz Governorate Police on Saturday announced the arrest of a suspect in the rape of a child in one of the city’s hotels. The statement explained that “after continuous efforts and sustained follow-up, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Taiz Police succeeded yesterday, Friday, February 22, in arresting the suspect in the rape of a disabled child in a hotel in the city center.” According to the statement, the Taiz Police were able to arrest the suspect (A.H.) after diligent efforts, surveillance, tracking, and extensive investigations that led to the identification, arrest, and confession of the perpetrator. The statement confirmed that the police are holding the suspect and a hotel employee named “N.G.” while the Criminal Investigation Department completes its investigations into the crime and finalizes the necessary procedures before transferring them to the appropriate authorities. The case was referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for legal proceedings. Upon being notified of the incident, the police in the Al-Thawra district immediately mobilized, and together with the Criminal Investigation Department, they initiated the necessary measures, procedures, and investigations. The owner of the hotel where the crime occurred was detained, and the case was pursued by the relevant authorities, in cooperation with other concerned parties, until the threads of the crime were uncovered and the primary suspect was apprehended.
