The Yemeni Bar Association condemned the arbitrary and unlawful detention of one of its members. The association’s media officer, lawyer Faisal Al-Majidi, stated that the association and all of lawyer Salam Al-Abyad’s colleagues will use all legal means to ensure his rights are upheld. He explained that the association demands the Supreme Judicial Council expedite its directive to investigate the commercial judge who arbitrarily and illegally detained him for approximately an hour and a half for reasons directly related to his duties as a lawyer. Al-Majidi emphasized that the legal profession is synonymous with justice, and violating the rights of this segment of society is a violation of the principles of justice and undermines them at their very foundation. He noted that attacks on lawyers have become alarmingly frequent and necessitate a serious and decisive stance from the Supreme Judicial Council to put an end to the violations to which lawyers are subjected.
