The Child Protection Organization (SIAJ) has called on the Minister of the Interior to expedite the referral of several detainees, including citizens of Arab nationalities, to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for further investigation and subsequent trial on charges of trafficking in the organs of Yemeni citizens, including children. In its letter to the Minister, the organization commended all members of the security and investigative services for their efforts in apprehending the group. Initial investigations, according to the organization’s sources, indicate their involvement in trafficking the kidneys of Yemenis in the Arab Republic of Egypt—the same case the organization had previously brought to public attention in April 2009. The organization stated in the letter, which was delivered to the Minister’s office last week: “The Child Protection Organization (SIAJ) is pleased to extend its sincere thanks and appreciation to you, and through you to all members of your esteemed ministry, for the significant national and humanitarian effort demonstrated by the security and investigative personnel in apprehending a gang specializing in human organ trafficking.” The organization believes that this highly appreciated effort is the result of the efforts of the Ministry of Interior and security personnel and their positive response to the organization’s demands for investigation and control in the case, which was included in its letter No. (324) dated (25/4/2009 AD), in which it requested that the authorities investigate the operations of luring ten Yemeni children and trafficking their kidneys in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
