On the morning of January 1, 2019, the death sentence was carried out against the kidnapper, rapist, and murderer of nine-year-old (A.H.) in Ibb Governorate, central Yemen. A representative of the Siyaj Organization stated that the execution took place in the sports stadium in the governorate’s capital against the convicted (Y.Th.) after he was found guilty of the heinous crime according to the law. The execution was carried out amidst a large and unprecedented public presence, indicating the extent of the terror the crime instilled in society. Popular organizations and activists in Ibb had held numerous marches and demonstrations demanding the execution as justice for the victim and to protect their children from the recurrence of such heinous and unprecedentedly widespread crimes. In a related development, the family of the girl who suffered the same fate in Hajjah Governorate are still awaiting the execution of the man who kidnapped, raped, and murdered their daughter in August of last year, after he was convicted of the crime in December 2018.
