The 17th meeting of the Arab Childhood Committee, organized by the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, commenced today with the participation of delegations from all member states of the League of Arab States. Qatar, represented by the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, is hosting this meeting for the first time. The agenda includes a report on the activities of the Family and Childhood Department at the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, progress on the implementation of recommendations from the 16th session of the Committee, follow-up on resolutions issued by the Fourth High-Level Conference on the Rights of the Child (Marrakech 2010), the Arab Project for the Advancement of Early Childhood, the Arab Strategy for Preventing Delinquency and Deviant Phenomena Among Youth, the Protection of Children with Disabilities, ensuring Children’s Rights in Emergency Situations, and the celebration of Arab Children’s Day. On the sidelines of the Arab Childhood Committee meetings, the 7th meeting of the Follow-up Committee on the Implementation of the Recommendations of the UN Secretary-General to End Violence against Children will be held. This meeting will review the Committee’s work during the period between the 16th and 17th sessions being held in Qatar. It is worth noting that the Supreme Council for Family Affairs had formed a committee to prepare and follow up on arrangements for this meeting in cooperation with the Arab League.
