Seyaj Organization for Childhood Protection launched the #Education_Protects_Yemen campaign on 21 November 2015, marking Universal Children’s Day and calling for stronger national, regional, and international support for education in Yemen.
Seyaj President Ahmed Al-Qurashi said the campaign seeks to mobilize attention to the real dangers facing millions of children whose education is at risk because of war, poverty, displacement, attacks on schools, and the collapse of basic services. He warned that disruption to education would have catastrophic consequences for children and for the future of Yemeni society.
The campaign stressed that education is a core protection tool for children. It helps shield them from recruitment into armed conflict, child labor, early marriage, exploitation, and long-term social exclusion. Seyaj called for practical action to keep schools functioning, support teachers, protect educational facilities, and ensure that children can continue learning safely.
The organization also linked the campaign to wider evidence on the causes of school dropout in Yemen, including poverty, gender discrimination, insecurity, and early marriage, and argued that protecting education must be treated as a national priority.
