A court in Taiz sentenced the main defendant in the rape of a child to five years in prison and imposed a fine of one million Yemeni rials, in addition to legal costs. A second defendant who assisted the crime was sentenced to one year in prison and fined two hundred thousand rials.
Seyaj’s representative in Taiz, lawyer Ali Al-Sarari, who provided legal support to the victim, said the child’s family welcomed the ruling because of the difficulty of proving such cases and the importance of achieving justice for victims and their families.
Seyaj also thanked the judge and prosecutor involved in the case, noting that the speed of the proceedings was exceptional compared with the long delays that often worsen the suffering of child victims and increase the risk of impunity.
