Seyaj Organization for Childhood Protection called on the Minister of Interior, the Attorney General, and the governor of Hajjah to take urgent legal action in the killing of fourteen-year-old Abu Bakr Mohammed Hadi Assaf.

According to Seyaj’s Monitoring and Advocacy Center, the child’s father tied him to the back of a car and dragged him for about one and a half kilometers until he died, allegedly because he had been absent from school. Witnesses said the father ignored attempts to save the child and continued until he lost his life.

Seyaj praised the positive role of local residents and the security authorities in Al Shahil district for arresting the accused father, and urged the judiciary to deal firmly with crimes committed by parents, warning that lenient treatment in such cases can encourage further abuse.
