The destruction of the education system during the war has deprived millions of Yemeni children of their right to education. The result will be the continued growth of violence, terrorism, and organized crime, as well as the obstruction of peace and development efforts for decades to come.

Crimes of violence and sexual exploitation against children have increased at an unprecedented rate during the war. As a Yemeni society, we bear the first responsibility for protecting our collective dignity by confronting these crimes and preventing their perpetrators from escaping punishment.

All children in Yemen who are victims of grave crimes must receive legal protection, psychosocial support, rehabilitation, and reintegration.

Most criminals who abuse children escape punishment for several reasons that society must not allow. Most sexual assaults against children are committed by males in their immediate surroundings, including relatives, neighbors, employers, and even family members who are supposed to be protectors.

Silence and failure to report the rape and sexual exploitation of children, as well as other grave crimes, enable perpetrators to escape punishment and continue violating the dignity of our children.

Publishing the names and photographs of children who are victims of sexual violence in the media and on social media. Such publication amounts to exposure and a lasting stigma, and causes serious harm to the child victim, their family, and society as a whole.
