An explosive remnant from the Saada war killed five people, including three schoolchildren, and injured three others from Al-Yarmouk School in Al-Mazraq camp for displaced persons. Seyaj called on the government to move quickly to remove landmines and war remnants.
The organization demanded urgent action to address the disasters of war and its remnants affecting children. According to Seyaj’s field sources, two of the dead children could not be identified because of the severe mutilation caused by the blast.
Local sources told Seyaj that the children were studying at Al-Yarmouk School in Al-Mazraq and happened to be near the explosion site during their break. Security authorities in Haradh district were investigating the incident, but initial information suggested that one person was trying to sell a quantity of scrap iron and copper from war remnants, among which was an unexploded device. It detonated while being weighed, at a time when the six schoolchildren, two local residents, and the scrap dealer were all nearby.
