The Monitoring Center at Seyaj Organization for Childhood Protection revealed that 124 boys and girls were abducted in Yemen during 2013.

Seyaj President Ahmed Al-Qurashi explained that the report covered only cases that had been verified and documented, adding that many of them fit the description of human-trafficking victims. The report, published by the organization in Sana’a on 15 April, said that weak child-protection performance, widespread impunity, and the decline of social values that should protect vulnerable groups are key reasons behind the rise in child abductions.

Issued by Seyaj’s Monitoring and Protection Center, the report forms part of the organization’s efforts to build a database and body of knowledge on violence against children. Seyaj said the report is especially important because it breaks through a culture of silence and concealment surrounding crimes that many communities associate with shame and honor.
