The seventeenth session of the Arab Childhood Committee, hosted by Qatar through the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, continued its work with a focus on protecting children’s rights in emergencies.
Participants reviewed guiding principles aimed at ensuring that children affected by disasters and crises, along with their families, receive the assistance needed to restore normal life. The discussions emphasized the urgent need in the Arab region for emergency plans that respond to children’s rights in general and their right to education in particular.
The meeting also highlighted cooperation with UNICEF on building child-related databases and training Arab specialists to prepare national childhood reports. Speakers stressed that the changes affecting the Arab region make it essential for governments to listen to children, create spaces for their voices, and strengthen efforts to combat violence against them.
