The Yemeni Lawyers Syndicate condemned the arbitrary and unlawful detention of one of its members.

The syndicate’s media officer, lawyer Faisal Al-Majidi, said that the syndicate and lawyer Salam Al-Abyad’s colleagues would use every legal means available to secure justice for him. He explained that the syndicate is demanding that the Supreme Judicial Council promptly direct an investigation into the commercial judge who detained the lawyer for about an hour and a half in an arbitrary and unlawful manner over a matter directly related to the performance of his duties as a lawyer.

Al-Majidi stressed that the legal profession is a pillar of justice and that violating the rights of lawyers is an assault on the foundations of justice itself. He noted that attacks on lawyers have been repeated in an alarming way and require a serious and firm response from the higher judicial authorities to put an end to such violations.
