Seyaj Organization for Childhood Protection called on the Minister of Interior to promptly refer a number of detainees, including citizens of Arab nationalities, to the Public Prosecution to complete investigations ahead of trial on charges of trafficking in the organs of Yemeni citizens, including children.
In its letter to the minister, the organization praised the efforts of the ministry’s search and security personnel in arresting the group, which early investigations, according to the organization’s sources, suggested had been involved in trafficking the kidneys of Yemenis in Egypt. This was the same case Seyaj had first raised publicly in April 2009.
The organization thanked the minister and, through him, all personnel of the ministry for what it described as an important national and humanitarian effort in dismantling a specialized human organ trafficking ring. Seyaj said this progress was the result of the positive response by Interior Ministry personnel to the organization’s earlier calls for investigation and arrests regarding the case, particularly its letter dated 25 April 2009 concerning the luring of ten Yemeni children and the trafficking of their kidneys in Egypt.
