On 16 June 2018, Seyaj Organization for Childhood Protection issued a humanitarian appeal calling on the Yemeni government and emergency relief organizations to act immediately to save hundreds of families on the Tihama coast south of Al Hudaydah.
The organization called on both the Arab coalition and the Houthi group to secure a route for civilians still trapped in villages in Al Durayhimi district and to allow life-saving aid to reach all civilians affected by the fighting.
According to Seyaj’s initial information, around fifty displaced families, mostly children and women, were living in extremely harsh conditions after fleeing villages west of Bayt Al Faqih. Many other families were trapped in conflict zones and mine-contaminated areas, while poor host families lacked the means to provide food and water.
Seyaj warned that displaced and besieged civilians had received no assistance since Ramadan and urgently needed food, drinking water, tents, and medicine. It also warned that homes and farms had been mined or booby-trapped, making return extremely dangerous, and called for urgent intervention to rescue civilians across the affected Tihama districts.
