Seyaj Organization for Childhood Protection condemned the killing, siege, starvation, and unlawful arrests affecting civilians in Al Dhalea governorate.
The organization strongly denounced the use of lethal force against civilians and expressed full solidarity with the families of those killed and injured, especially children and women. It also condemned all those who endanger the country’s higher national interests, foremost among them the unity of Yemen and the safety of innocent citizens.
Seyaj called on the armed forces and security leadership to avoid targeting populated areas, and urged elements associated with the so-called Southern Movement to leave civilian areas immediately and not use civilians as human shields or conduct activities that endanger their safety.
The organization also urged the government to investigate the incident, prosecute those responsible, and compensate the families of the dead, injured, and affected civilians. According to Seyaj’s sources and media reports, military shelling of residential areas in the southern outskirts of the city on 7 June 2010 left five people dead, ten wounded, including children and women, and damaged more than thirty homes.
