On the morning of 1 January 2019, the death sentence was carried out against the abductor, rapist, and killer of a nine-year-old girl in Ibb governorate, central Yemen.
A Seyaj representative said the execution took place in the governorate’s sports stadium after the convict was found guilty under the law. The public turnout was exceptionally large, reflecting the depth of fear and outrage caused by the crime. Civil society groups and popular movements in Ibb had held repeated marches and protests demanding the execution in order to secure justice for the victim and protect children from similar crimes.
In a related case, the family of another girl in Hajjah was still waiting for the execution of the convicted abductor, rapist, and killer of their daughter, who had been found guilty in December 2018.
