Seyaj appealed urgently to the President of the Supreme Judicial Council and the Attorney General to address the death sentence issued against a fifteen-year-old child in Zinjibar, Abyan governorate.
The organization said the Zinjibar Primary Court had ruled on 27 November 2022 to execute Hani Mohammed bin Mohammed Ahmed Al-Ka’madi, even though his birth certificate proved that he was born in January 2008 and therefore remained a minor.
Seyaj stressed in its letters that executing the child would clearly violate Yemeni law and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The child’s lawyer asked the organization to intervene, and local lawyers and rights defenders in Abyan said they would form a defense team before the appeal and supreme courts in order to overturn the sentence and ensure that the child is treated under juvenile justice standards.
