The Wasab Al-Aali Primary Court in Dhamar governorate ruled to annul the marriage contract of ten-year-old Saud Yahya Mohammed to her sixty-year-old husband after Seyaj demanded judicial intervention because of the child’s rejection of the marriage and the harm she had suffered.
Seyaj thanked the presiding judge for siding with justice, humanity, and the rights of the child. The organization also thanked those who supported the case, including tribal figures who helped the girl after she sought refuge with them.
The ruling came after Seyaj had urged the court to examine the case, pointing out that the child had even attempted suicide by poison because of the marriage and asking for punishment of the father, husband, and registrar for violating the rights of a minor.
