Matching security and rights sources told Seyaj that a sniper affiliated with Ansar Allah Houthis targeted an eight-year-old girl on the evening of Monday, 17 August, causing a critical head injury.

Eyewitnesses said the girl, Rowaida Saleh bin Saleh Al-Qafri, was shot from the Central Security camp in the Kilabah neighborhood, an area controlled by the group in northern Taiz, while she was fetching water near her home.

Medical sources at Al-Rawda Hospital said the child was in critical condition and receiving intensive care. Seyaj condemned the crime and called on all parties to the conflict to avoid targeting children and civilians, stressing that such war crimes do not expire with time and that their perpetrators remain liable.
