Protecting the rights of all children in Yemen is the core focus of Siyaj. Since its inception fifteen years ago, it has worked in partnership and cooperation with UN and international organizations, national governmental and non-governmental institutions, and a network of volunteers across all Yemeni governorates.
Based on the general objectives and values outlined in its charter, and in accordance with the standards and ethics of child rights defenders, Siyaj has worked to develop and sustain its partnerships with all relevant stakeholders and to increase the participation of the national private sector, families, and the Yemeni community in efforts to protect, care for, and promote children’s rights.
The war has led to a rise in crimes and violations against children since 2014 and has exacerbated the risks and threats to children’s rights. The COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine have compounded this tragedy. The prevalent situation faced by the majority of Yemeni children, coupled with a clear decline in protection mechanisms and resources, particularly legal protection and advocacy for victims of violence, exploitation, and abuse, has made partnership and integration between the Child Welfare Association (SIAJ) and various institutions concerned with childhood even more imperative.
