Seyaj Organization for Childhood Protection and the German Embassy in Sana’a signed an agreement to implement the second phase of the project to combat the recruitment and use of children in armed conflict.

During the signing ceremony at the embassy, the German ambassador said support for the project reflects his country’s commitment to development in Yemen and to improving the human-rights situation. He stressed that the recruitment and use of people under eighteen in armed conflict is a grave violation of children’s rights and that addressing it requires raising awareness and improving social and economic conditions.

Seyaj President Ahmed Al-Qurashi said the recruitment of children in Yemen is practiced widely by both governmental and non-governmental military actors and requires broad and multi-layered responses. He explained that the project aims to raise public awareness, encourage the Yemeni government to adopt future policies and plans, prevent underage recruitment into regular forces, demobilize those already recruited in line with the Paris Principles, and enforce the law against armed groups that recruit minors.
