The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and ADRA screened ‘Painful Weddings,’ a film produced by Seyaj in 2012 with support from the Middle East Partnership Initiative, as part of efforts to reduce child marriage in Yemen.

The two international organizations organized a series of awareness activities for people displaced by the armed conflict in Saada governorate. The film was produced as one component of Seyaj’s ‘My Life’ project, which forms part of a broader strategic partnership to strengthen child rights and protect girls from early marriage and other forms of gender-based violence.

By screening the film, UNHCR and ADRA sought to raise public awareness of the consequences of child marriage and address a problem that has grown at alarming rates, especially among displaced communities and the poorest families.
